Get Ready Before the Audit, Assessment or Customer Review
Compliance pressure often arrives with a deadline: a certification objective, regulator requirement, customer questionnaire, procurement process or formal audit.
Cyber Resilience Compliance Readiness helps organisations understand the security controls, evidence and remediation work required before that scrutiny becomes urgent — so gaps can be addressed deliberately rather than discovered at the last moment.
Quick answer
What is cybersecurity compliance readiness?
Cybersecurity compliance readiness is the process of assessing an organisation’s current security controls, documentation and evidence against an agreed compliance, assurance or framework objective before a formal review takes place.
The goal is to identify gaps, understand what requires remediation and improve readiness for the relevant audit, certification, regulatory or customer requirement.
What can drive readiness work
Different organisations face different assurance pressures.
Our audit and assessment capability supports work across several recognised standards and requirements. Depending on the engagement, readiness activity may relate to:
- 01
ISO 27001 information security requirements
- 02
ISO 20000 where relevant
- 03
Privacy requirements including POPIA and GDPR
- 04
NIST Cyber Security Framework alignment
- 05
CIS cybersecurity controls
- 06
PCI DSS readiness
- 07
Customer or supplier security assurance requirements
- 08
Internal governance, board or audit requirements
What readiness looks for
Find the gaps before the formal reviewer does.
The exact scope depends on the requirement. Readiness work can examine whether required controls exist, whether they are appropriately implemented, whether policies and procedures support them, and whether sufficient evidence is available to demonstrate how the controls operate.
The objective is not to create paperwork for its own sake. It is to understand where the organisation is not yet ready and what needs to change.
How a readiness engagement works
From requirement to remediation priorities.
A readiness engagement moves from the requirement you need to meet to a clear set of remediation priorities.
- 01
Define the Requirement
Confirm the framework, regulation, customer requirement or assurance objective the organisation needs to prepare for.
- 02
Establish Scope
Identify the relevant systems, processes, information, stakeholders and evidence within the agreed readiness scope.
- 03
Assess Current State
Review applicable controls, documentation, records and current practices against the agreed requirement.
- 04
Identify Gaps
Document areas where controls, evidence or implementation do not yet support the target requirement.
- 05
Prioritise Remediation
Organise gaps by importance, dependencies and practical effort so remediation can be sequenced.
- 06
Prepare for Review
Support the organisation in improving readiness and identifying remaining issues before formal assurance activity, where included in scope.
Evidence readiness
A control is harder to defend when the organisation cannot demonstrate it.
Formal assurance often depends not only on whether a control exists, but on whether the organisation can provide appropriate evidence of how it is defined and operated.
Our audit guidance references policies, procedures, control evidence, stakeholder interviews and engagement preparation. Compliance readiness can therefore help organisations identify documentation and evidence gaps before formal review.
What you receive
A clearer picture of what is ready, what is missing and what happens next.
The exact outputs depend on the chosen framework and scope. They can include:
- Current-state findings against the agreed requirement
- Identified control, documentation or evidence gaps
- Prioritised remediation recommendations
- Management-level view of material readiness issues
- Practical next-step actions
- Recommendations for specialist technical assessment where required
- Readiness reassessment or validation where separately scoped
When it makes sense
Start before the deadline becomes the project plan.
- You are preparing for ISO 27001 or another formal security framework
- A customer or tender requires stronger security evidence
- A regulator or governance process is increasing scrutiny
- An external audit or certification assessment is approaching
- Security questionnaires repeatedly expose the same evidence gaps
- Policies exist but implementation or supporting evidence is inconsistent
- You need a practical remediation plan before formal assurance
- You are unsure whether the organisation is actually ready for the requirement it is pursuing
Readiness vs information security audit
Preparation and independent assurance are different stages.
| Compliance Readiness | Information Security Audit |
|---|---|
| Prepares the organisation for a defined assurance requirement | Independently assesses controls and evidence against an agreed audit objective |
| Identifies gaps before formal scrutiny | Produces formal findings from the audit engagement |
| Focuses on remediation and evidence preparation | Focuses on control adequacy, effectiveness and compliance status |
| Answers: What must we fix or prepare before review? | Answers: What does the evidence show against the requirement? |
Readiness vs ISO 27001 consulting
Broad compliance preparation and ISO-specific implementation should not compete.
Compliance Readiness can support multiple security frameworks and assurance requirements. ISO 27001 consulting is the dedicated route for organisations specifically implementing or improving an ISO 27001-aligned information security management system.
Where ISO 27001 is the objective, our governance and ISO 27001 services provide the detailed implementation support.
Readiness is not certification
Prepare for assurance without overstating the outcome.
A readiness engagement can identify gaps and help an organisation prepare, but it does not itself grant certification, guarantee that an external audit will be passed or replace the independent certification body where certification is required.
From gap to action
Connect compliance gaps to the capability needed to close them.
Some readiness findings are governance or documentation issues. Others may expose technical weaknesses, identity risk, vulnerability-management gaps, monitoring limitations or insufficient incident readiness.
Cyber Resilience’s wider capability allows readiness findings to connect into risk assessment, technical testing, ISO and ISMS work, managed security and other specialist services rather than ending with a gap list.
TOTALIS
Support remediation, governance and management visibility.
TOTALIS is Cyber Resilience’s cyber resilience management platform. It can support remediation tracking, governance activity, operational risk management and executive oversight across multiple security and operational environments.
TOTALIS is not a certification platform and does not itself establish compliance. Where appropriate, it can support ongoing visibility into actions arising from readiness and assurance work.
Why Cyber Resilience
Readiness connected to security reality, not compliance theatre.
Cyber Resilience combines audit, risk, governance and technical security capability. That helps readiness work consider both the requirement on paper and the controls, evidence and operational practices that support it in reality.

FAQ
Compliance Readiness FAQs
What is cybersecurity compliance readiness?
It is a structured assessment of current security controls, documentation and evidence against an agreed compliance or assurance objective before formal review, helping identify gaps and remediation priorities.
Which requirements can Cyber Resilience support?
Our audit and assessment capability covers ISO 27001, ISO 20000, POPIA and GDPR privacy requirements, CIS Top 20 Cybersecurity Controls, the NIST Cyber Security Framework and PCI DSS readiness. The exact engagement is confirmed during scoping.
Is compliance readiness the same as an audit?
No. Readiness is preparation: it identifies gaps and helps the organisation improve before formal assurance. An Information Security Audit independently assesses controls and evidence against an agreed audit objective.
Does a readiness assessment guarantee certification?
No. Readiness can help identify and remediate gaps, but it does not grant certification or guarantee the result of an external certification or audit.
Can you help with ISO 27001 readiness?
Yes, ISO 27001 is part of our audit and assessment capability. Where ISO 27001 is the specific objective, our governance and ISO 27001 services provide detailed implementation support.
Will you review policies and evidence?
Our audit methodology includes documentation and records review, and our guidance references policies, procedures and control evidence. The exact evidence requirements depend on the chosen framework and scope.
Can technical testing form part of readiness?
Where a requirement exposes a need for technical assurance, separate services such as vulnerability assessment or penetration testing can be scoped. They are not automatically included in every readiness engagement.
Do you provide a gap analysis?
Identifying gaps is central to readiness work. The exact report format and deliverables are agreed in scope.
How long does compliance readiness take?
There is no standard duration. Timing depends on the requirement, organisational scope, current state and the remediation needed.
Find the gaps while there is still time to fix them.
If a certification, audit, customer review or governance requirement is approaching, Cyber Resilience can help establish where you stand and what needs attention before formal scrutiny.
